Structured Wiring -


The back bone of a Smart home is a structured wiring system. Home wiring has not changed much in the last 50 years. Most house are still using telephone (cat 3) grade cable and in some instance not even that level of cable is being used.

Technology, on the other hand, has done the opposite. The advancements that have been made in communications, entertainment and computers is staggering. Only a properly designed and installed structured wiring network, utilizing the latest in cabling technology will allow you to take advantage of these advancements.

It's all about speed and bandwidth, you're only as fast as your slowest point and you could have the greatest equipment in the world but if your wiring can only handle a small fraction of the traffic then that's all you're going to get.

Components of a structured wiring system:
  • This can be a closet or cupboard. This is where all the outside services enter the home things like, cable, telephone, etc…, From here everything gets distributed throughout the house. Centralized distribution is easier to manage, eliminating the need for extra costly hardware, such as modems, and cleans up a lot of ugly wiring messes that hide behind your electronic equipment.

  • In most cases to types are used coax, for tv, satellite and digital tv. Voice and Data will use a Category 5 or better twisted pair cable. Coax is used for tv because it provides maximum protection for you tv signal while category 5 cable provides high speed access for your voice and data equipment. If you should want multiple phone lines in the house then cat 5 cables will eliminate crosstalk as well.

  • Each outlet in each room will generally consist of one jack for phone, one for PC, one for TV and one Miscellaneous. These outlets can all be customized depending on each room's specific needs.
